Practical checklist

What evidence should I keep for a credit card trip-delay claim?

Keep the original itinerary, fare-payment records, a written airline explanation and expense receipts. Your benefit administrator may request additional documents; its applicable guide controls the requirements and deadlines.

Show what changed

Keep the original and revised itinerary, flight number and travel date. Save airline messages about the cause and delay duration. A verbal explanation is worth noting, but ask for written confirmation too.

Show how the fare was paid

Retain the payment record and any points or voucher details. Identify the exact card product and network. BenefitMyTrip does not need your card number, statement or bank credentials; keep those records for the administrator’s official process.

Connect receipts to the delay

Keep itemized receipts and the hotel folio for additional expenses, along with their dates. Preserve records of airline vouchers, refunds or other insurance reimbursements so the same expense is not claimed twice.

Ask for a carrier statement

You can ask: “Please confirm the reason and total delay duration for my flight, including scheduled and revised departure times and any assistance provided.” Replace general wording with your flight details when contacting the airline yourself.

Check deadlines before waiting for every document

Your guide may give separate notice and document deadlines. Check both promptly with the administrator rather than waiting for the last receipt. The checker displays the deadlines from an applicable reviewed rule; it does not file the claim.

Find the terms for your card

Compare this checklist with your account’s current guide. Our card pages identify official sources and review limitations. Examples of official trip-delay guidance include Chase’s explanation and American Express’s guide directory.
